If the current polling trend holds and Hillary wins by 6-11 points and over 300 electoral votes, what do you think will be the biggest points of the 2016 election? This includes the actual moments on the campaign trail and your predictions, if you're confident enough.

Play the part of a future writer. How will we remember the 2016 election in 4 years?

The entire GOP field would take up so much time, but I feel they could condense it to a quarter. This way they get the most important and juicy information, as opposed to a lot of inside information in 2012 that ultimately fell short to the inside look at '08. Each candidate would get a chapter but for the final four, and the rest of the primaries would show detailed campaign reactions.

There would be an entire quarter of the book on Trump.

And another quarter of the book would be on the Democratic Primary.

And finally the general election.

One piece of analysis I imagine people would look at is the differences between Trump's early gaffes (McCain comments, etc.) and why he was able to move past those without losing much of a standing in the polls while in 2012, Bachmann, Gingrich, Perry, and Santorum could not. I think one of the things that people might look at was that in 2012, candidates were at the top of the polls for a few weeks before they made their gaffes. People thought "well, we gave them a shot, and they blew it." Trump made his big gaffes at the height of his surge, and I think rather than people looking elsewhere, had a gut reaction to defend him and think "come on now, let's hear what he has to say."

Another thing I think academia will look at with regard to this election is Trump as a traumatic coping mechanism for post-Bush Republicans and conservatives, allowing them to process the repressed shame they feel for the US's damaged standing in the late 2000s without having to take responsibility.

Say you've gone to a bar, had too much to drink and then passed out.

This election is the day after when you wake up next to some 250 pound lady Smiley

Yeah the 2012 book was a bit of a letdown compared to the brilliancy that was the 2008 book, but I feel like there honestly just wasn't as much of a story to tell.  There was only one primary, there was nothing like the ferocity of the 2008 race between Clinton and Obama, there weren't any fascinating characters like Palin, and Obama ran a pretty tight ship.  That all said, the writing around the debates is probably my favorite of either book.

Don't forget, we haven't seen the debates yet. That first one should be wild. One could write an entire chapter on that alone.

This election has been such a reality show that they're going to sell it in box sets on DVD.

I'll be written about how a weak candidate won despite herself, because her opponent was even worse.
