What's the best place to live in New England? What's the closest place to paradise in those 6 states?

Martha's Vineyard comes to mind straight away, but there must be more...

I like rural areas, so I'm biased toward ME/VT/NH/Western Mass.

For Martha's Vineyard, its reputation kind of precedes it as a summer getaway island.

I don't know why everyone is choosing Maine. Hate to be "that guy", but its kind of the Alabama of New England. When I went there I was SHOCKED at how many Baptist churches I saw out in the boonies.

Block Island. Because you can't be more oceanfront than that. Yes there's Martha's Vineyard & Nantucket, but I don't want to listen to that ridiculous accent all day.

best place to live in New England is really hard to say, there's so much beauty.    Concord MA would be awesome, so much great history and a nice place to live in general, or maybe up in the mountains like White River Junction, Vt or Conway, NH.

If money is not an issue, Martha's Vineyard obviously. For an urban setting, lean Providence. For affordable, probably Vermont. [For a week long trip, I'd probably pick rural Maine.]

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Cape Ann. The weather is almost as mild as Cape Cod, but it's a lot easier to get up to NH and ME for a taste of the mountains or to get into Boston for city life. On Cape Ann Rockport remains a quaint New England town mixing lobster boats, artists, commuters and tourists. It also has one of the most iconic harbor buildings in the world as a subject for said artists.
