Nixon was a proven disaster. But even then, he'd be a better kind of disaster than Hillary taking over after 8 years of Obama.

I think Nixon would have been considered  a good president without Watergate. If you are knocking Nixon for watergate , in my opinion the email scandal is worse.

Plus on Foreign Policy Nixon way better. I mean Nixon was able to go to China which was a brilliant move which was one of the major reasons the Soviets fell, and unlike Hillary policies will he didnt make the situation in vietnam worse

On economic policy i would take hillary over nixon by a small margin

The thing what puts nixon over the top is he brought back law and order to the country, and was not a panderer

No, he just prolonged the war unnecessarily.

I'm one of those who are willing to defend some aspects of Nixon's policy (most notably the detente), but this implication is just silly.

dis gon b gud

If I may: The idea that Richard Nixon was 'not a panderer' is possibly the most ludicrous hot take on political history I've ever seen in my life, and I'm speaking as someone who only a few days ago attempted to engage a poster who had called Valéry Giscard d'Estaing a 'Red Tory'. Nixon was an early master of--indeed, a pioneer of--indeed, the pioneer of--the now-universal tactic of special pleading to partial interests that he then used astroturfing to claim represented larger groups than they actually did. This was one of the most important components of the structure that maintained the Nixon mystique, along with Big Lies and ratf'ing. [Bowdlerized by Torie]

I'll let Cathcon handle this as I'm sure he's a lot more interested in this discussion, but I'd like to remind my fellow liberals that Nixon is the father of the Conservative Movement. Reagan might have brought it to power, but he only could because Nixon brought it into the mainstream a decade and a half before.

Nixon would probably be a moderate Democrat today, so the difference isn't really that big. Voted Nixon for foreign policy savvy.

Tricky Dick.

He is preferable to Crooked Hillary.

Had he not become involved in Watergate, he would have gone down in history as one of the truly great Presidents.

At this point in time, we do not yet know the full extent or the full implications of the Hillary e-mail issue or of the Clinton Foundation potential involvement in corruption and scandal.

Again, I've been opposing black-or-white view on the Nixon presidency on this forum for years, but let's not kid ourselves: Watergate was not the only thing that went terribly wrong.

The two aren't mutually exclusive, since Obama is actually a moderate Republican. Wink

Nixon is not more liberal than Obama. But he was a lot more liberal than today's Republicans.
