Ford, Carter: FF
Bush: Mild FF
Reagan: Mild HP
Nixon: HP

Ironically, Nixon is the candidate I would have been most enthusiastic about if I were alive and of voting age at that time.

What was with the love for Grant, the hate for McKinley, and people voting HP for Washington?  Out of the loop but curious.

What's wrong with that? Grant was a good president given the circumstances.

What's wrong with that? Grant was a good president given the circumstances.

I think much of the dislike for Grant was because of his administration's corruption and blatant corporate favoritism.  The further history got from people whose parents or grandparents were alive to hear about his Presidency from people who were alive during it, and the more important a POTUS' civil rights views became in his valuation, the better Grant came to be viewed.

Keep in mind that people in the '60s really were only a few generations removed from the Civil War, so some of our classic books on the Presidents were written by people whose grandparents very well might have fought in it!

Nixon was an HP politically and personally, but he's so uniquely fascinating among the ranks of American Presidents that I'm actually glad he was president, despite the damage he inflicted. It's not like Nelson Rockefeller or Ronald Reagan would have handled Vietnam any better.
