Here in southwestern CT, the main issue is taxes and the economy.  Earlier this year, GE (General Electric, headquartered here) announced they were moving to the Boston area.  This is a BIG loss for our region.  Also, state taxes are very high....we are taxed up the wazoo by Dan Malloy and the Democrats.  And they wonder why we lost GE....ya think? Sad

City Council being too elitist, not letting the people vote on the city charter review recommendations. The council president sometimes even stopping the rest of the Council from talking about the recommendations. The Council also stripped the office Mayor of a lot of its power once the new one was elected, because he wasn't one of them. But the Council President did put his pet issue on the ballot, despite it not being vetted or explained how it would work.

But, besides that, the REAL focus should be on improving our schools, and urban blight due to neglect of our city's downtown and the poorer neighborhoods. But of course no one is talking about that. Probably because of the City Council situation... and even then, most residents don't even know about it.

On the state level, the General Assembly hasn't even attempted to pass a meaningful bill in 2 years, but there was a controversy about creating a toll for trucks.

Politics in RI feels so stagnant right now.

In the area: Drought

In the city: Homelessness and figuring out how to keep the overpasses sanitary.

Housing prices and rent, both of which are ridiculously high in Seattle.

Corruption, our mayor is an extremely corrupt man that will most likely be re-elected due to Demographics.

This too, Seattle's a bargain in comparison.

In my neighborhood: The 91st Street Marine Transfer Station

In general: maybe climate change or housing prices

In LA? I guess the gas leak from a few months ago. Or maybe the drought, though it's not been too much of a problem this year.

In my former city, Bel Aire, KS, the most pressing issue was local corruption. The former mayor was making payouts to his wife from public funds, the former police chief illegally sold department guns for personal gain, and a current councilwoman overcharged local businesses on utilities and pocketed funds.

Here in Montreal, the biggest one is probably infrastructure. The roads are in awful shape, and they keep getting patched but end up full of holes again. It's pathetic. Also, our bridges are in rough shape.

The Tea Party's ongoing capers are still a big story here. They sued the library - and lost. They sued the county to try to force it to shut down its main courthouse - and lost. They ranted against the county's proposed heroin needle exchange program - and lost. Then a Tea Party leader who opposed that program got busted for selling drugs.

The heroin program is itself a big issue. I went to a county government meeting about it, and everybody supports it except the Tea Party and a local Tea Party radio station WKRC.
