With the awful news of John's passing (we all knew it would come some time this decade, but it is still just awful), what happens to the show? I have a sneaking suspicion that Pat could take the lead role, but I still don't know.

I don't think Buchanan would do a very good job with it, to be honest.  I assume that the show will stumble forward in some form for the next three months, then go off the air for good after the election.

Pat will take the chair for now, but I hope they find a new host. Pat is best as a panelist.

As Santander noted, Pat Buchanan is great but not as a host. I'd recommend someone like Brian Lamb if I had a voice.

I just don't see why it's obvious that the show is going to continue at all, to be honest.  Like I said, they may very well keep it going until the election, but why continue McLaughlin's show indefinitely after he's dead?  The panelists are mostly pretty old themselves, and I don't think it's any kind of ratings powerhouse.

I honestly didn't know The McLaughlin Group was still on. Has it even been remotely relevant since the '90s?

I don't know what will happen to be honest.
Hope they find another individual, but agree that Pat needs to stay in his seat, and not be moderator for the show.

There's more than enough inane "who won the week"-style punditry on national news programs without it, so my hope that it will be cancelled.

Or they could ask Trevor Noah to host it, I guess.

Hey, I like Trevor Noah!
