Do you agree with 'burkini' swimsuits ban in some French regions?
I generally support it because I think it is unhygienic.

Bizarre. I mean I can see the justification for banning veils and niqabs for security reasons, but the burkini doesn't even cover the face! You see similar garments on old white women!

Can't wait for France to dictate to everybody that they must be clean shaven because beards are religious.

Dear Antonio,

No.

Dear Green Line,

How do Burkini's help terrorism? Oh wait it's just a way for politicians to gain points among Islamophobic voters.

The Burkini is fine, though I dislike the name, however the burqa and the niqab should be banned.

Well, of course, the state has a right to ban whatever form of clothing it so wishes. More to the point, I see literally no point in the burkini, the burqa, the niqab or any other variant of niche religious clothing - ultimately, the idea should be to assimilate minority groups into the mainstream of society, and it is... not helpful, as far as this goal goes, if they choose to wear items of clothing that instantly mark them out as different. Banning this type of dress is just another nudge in the direction of assimilation, which should be the goal of public policy in this area.

I'm neither a white nationalist nor a misogynist, so I have no real reason to support the ban.

The garment allows women to compete or participate in sports with mobility so you shouldn't ban it.  However the fact that they couldn't, until this garment became widespread still stems from a fundamentalist interpretation of what constitutes 'modesty'.

All secular nations should ban stuff like this in public.

Hijabs are one thing.  I mean they are pretty close to scarves so a ban would be hard to justify.

Yes, especially since there are plenty of other religions with rules for modest dress (generally for women but in some cases for men as well) that make exceptions for swimwear/sportswear in general. I hope none of us here on Atlas Forum would argue that the demand for burkinis is in itself a good thing.

Clearly women are too dumb to make their own decisions and thus need us men to decide what choices they need to make to be free.

I certainly wouldn't.

This issue (unlike another issue that's being currently discussed on here...) is actually a good example of why not everything that's morally wrong should be illegal.
