I don't know too much about the situation there, but if the people living in the Western Sahara support independence then so do I.

Of course (normal). The silence of the international community over this blatant injustice is sickening.

Ultimately, Western Sahara is proof of the failure of the UN and its push for decolonization. Spanish rule would be ideal, but Moroccan rule is acceptable.

Why is that? Spain isn't exactly a model of good governance.

I support the right of any and all constituencies to determine whether or not they want self-rule, whether that is the Western Sahara, Palestine, Kosovo, Hong Kong, Tibet, Darfur, etc.

Hasn't it effectively been independent for decades?

The only part of the country that the Sahrawis have de facto control over is the desert interior where no one lives besides a few nomads.

I'd like to here some arguments from the 38.5% of people not supporting this grand cause.

Yes, but only if it's all or nothing in terms of territory. There's no way Western Sahara could survive as a state if it only had sovereignty over the area it currently controls.

I don't know if independendence is really a popular idea in W Sahara /  among Sahrawis,

The Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic attempts to be a state and is partially recognized. Conflicts over independence have been going on for 40 years. I think it's fairly popular?

Morocco should give them a binding independence referendum.
