I was listening to JD Vance, the author of Hillbilly Elegy, on NPR and he was talking about some of what he's observed as Trump's appeal and something he said stuck out to me. He believes that a large reason why so many white working-class people feel like they can "trust" Trump over Hillary or the President is because the latter two do not sound like normal people or "people like them" -- they act, are rehearsed, filtered, etc.

Given Trump's recent comments and his campaign moving heavily toward teleprompter usage and strict adherence to script, does Trump end up losing his base? If he starts acting and sounding like a "typical" politician, does he lose all of the people he supposedly brought into the Republican Party?

I think Trump does risk alienating some of his base if he starts acting like a normal politician (or human being for that matter).

No.  His supporters are far to invested in him to abandon him now.  They'll make any excuse they need to in order to support him.

The only way he could lose his base would be to say something positive (or reasonable) about Hillary or Obama.

No, but he won't gain anyone, either.

He could come out and support TPP and still not lose his base.
