A combination of insulting a Hispanic judge and being caught in a fight with a badass Muslim Gold Star father.

Not sure why those specific examples occurred to me, I just had a premonition of sorts.

Despite the depressing truth behind this comment, it made me laugh.

Trump drops at least one racist or sexist slur during one of the debates, then storms offstage and refuses to attend the other debates.

Being reasonable and saying something like "I've taken some pretty extreme positions during this campaign, and I can't believe some of you were stupid enough to try to defend me."

A tantrum in the debates with some obvious bigotry would do it, I think.

He said something very similar to it eight years ago

Didn't work so well for Kerry or Gore now did it.

Knowing how this cycle has gone so far he'd come back as a zombie and keep his campaign going.

Tax returns exposed. They would put the myth of the “successful businessman” to rest once and for all and expose that he avoided paying taxes and is a fake billionaire.

No one event is likely to end it.  I would go by polling:

1. Clinton's favorability reaches a net positive.
2. Clinton is leading outside the MoE in every poll coming out of both GA and AZ for two consecutive weeks.
3. Clinton is leading by more than 5 points in every poll coming out of FL, OH, and NC for two consecutive weeks.
4. Clinton's average national poll lead holds at 10% or more for two consecutive weeks.
5. It's October 15 or later, and the polls look like they do today.

Failing that, on election night:

1. PA, VA, and MI are all called for Clinton (around 10 pm).
2. OH or FL is called for Clinton (some time after midnight).

And the right-wing talking point would shift to how the IRS is in the hands of leftist activists ("muh IRS won't tax exempt conservative orgs!") and Trump is the target of a Democratic smear campaign.

Stupid?  Yes.  Effective?  Probably.

Major stroke, probably. Even then: most of his people would vote for him even if his is in a permanent vegetative state.

Slapping a White Blonde Southern Baptist Military Orphan across the face while calling her a c[inks]t  might do it.

It would take Clinton being replaced as the nominee*, because she is the only reason that Trump has as much of a prayer as he does. Trump vs anyone else would have been case closed by this point.

* assuming she isn't replaced with Bernie Sanders
