MASSIVE Freedom Party. I mean they're literally all liberal, all the time, and never put up stupid press releases of unreadable nonsense about "blah blah exploitation of the proletariat" like that stupid crap from sites like marxists.org that people like TNF and Snowstalker would link to. It's exactly like typical liberal activist groups! http://www.cpusa.org/action_tout

Plus they always endorse the Democrats. They are SO much better than trash like Communist Party of Greece and other disgusting and sickening parties that only a sociopath would support with that in the name. Also way better than those lunatics in the Greens. This is an organization I'd have no problem belonging to.

Terrible.

Though what's wrong with marxists.org? It's archive is really good and includes everyone from Marx to Proudhon to even a bit of Nietzsche.

I do admit it's fun seeing the horrified scare stories passed around every four years a la "COMRADES GORE/LIEBERMAN ENDORSED BY COMMUNIST PARTY". Still I do wish they'd take advantage and revel in their hilariously sold out position, like their South African sister organisation.

Even crazier is the fact they still do the annual meet-up with all the other "Communist of..." parties. I can only imagine how surreal the meetings must be, with the delegations of the dwindling People's Republics bumping with various of-shots of people too Stalinist to stomach joining NewLeft organisations.

Was the Communist Party on the forefront of the American Left at any point at all? Even in their heyday in the 1930s and 1940s, Norman Thomas and the Socialist Party seemed more prominent and during the 1960s, it was groups like the Socialist Workers Party, Freedom Road, Peace and Freedom, etc, that attracted the most attention.

I like to imagine the Chinese use assignment to their delegation to it as a sort of equivalent to being made manager of a small tractor factory in Eastern Kazakhstan.

Yeah, marxists.org is a treasure trove for anyone interested in intellectual history. Hell, I go to school with plenty of moderates and conservatives who cite it regularly.

I hate marxists.org because every time Snowstalker linked to something from there it was dense, unreadable nonsense.

Snowstalker basically convinced me that Marxism is total nonsense and there is no way on Earth anyone besides a complete f[inks]ing moron could possibly take it seriously.

I'm tempted to make some sort of remark about you convincing people of the same re: liberalism, but that wouldn't be fair to you because unlike Snowstalker your actual beliefs are quite consistent and valid (which isn't necessarily the same as being sound), it's just the demented manner in which you present them that puts people off.

I can only imagine how surreal the meetings must be, with the delegations of the dwindling People's Republics bumping with various of-shots of people too Stalinist to stomach joining NewLeft organisations.

Do such meet ups mean anything though? If they're anything like those international affiliations of social democratic, liberal or conservative parties, then they're just useless talking shops who hold some annual convention, pass a bunch of meaningless resolutions that say "hey guys aren't our platforms the best? Yeah, we are so awesome!" and then adjourn and do nothing for a whole year.

Also I wouldn't call them as sold as the South African Communist Party. At least they support the party closer to their interests. The ANC went full neoliberal under Mbeki and is now effectively more anti-union than Scott Walker.
