Has anyone else found it interesting that the progeny of the leaders of the religious right are almost certifiably insane? As bad as Jerry Falwell was, he would never have said something like that.

He's gong to send a bunch of Americans to die at the eastern end of the Med, in a stupid testament to his own ego, vanity, and poor military decision-making? Sounds likely.

Winston Churchill is a drunk. How dare he compare our dear leader to that trashy leader

Hey, Churchill switched parties often and was a failure until he walked into #10.

Churchill correctly predicted that appeasement was a mistake in the 1930s, the biggest call of the decade.

Churchill's whining about appeasement was as much bull as Kennedy's lies about a "missile gap". Britain and her allies lacked the military force to confront Germany; something Chamberlain's government was fixing as fast as it could.

So yes, another point of commonality between Churchill and TrumpMiller: both lied about national security in order to promote their own political careers.

Anyone know if Churchill wrote glowing letters to the editor about himself under pseudonyms?

I too find it likely that Trump will support eugenics and eventually lose in a landslide.

I imagine if many Atlas posters (particularly the #nevertrump crowd) had been around in the UK in 1940, they would have proudly been tweeting #imwithhalifax on account of Churchill's 'unsuitable temperament', 'unaccepable remarks' and 'lack of qualifications for the Prime Ministership', in contrast to the 'statesmanlike' and 'qualified' Earl of Halifax.

Really? I mean, the majority of his pre-1940 political career consisted of him not doing very well as a minister and being on the losing side of most political battles (the gold standard and the abdication crisis to name but a two).

And Trump has never once held any sort of elected office and often shown little interest and even less knowledge of key issues facing the nation. There's a pretty big gulf between those two.

First Lord of the Admiralty in both wars, Minister of Munitions in the last, War Secretary after the armistice, going on 40 years in Parliament...

Certainly more than a bit washed up after his second party switch and disastrous stint as Chancellor, but no one would deny his experience and qualifications.

Closest analogues would be Gingrich 2012 (well known, clearly intelligent guy, but with some past scandals and way too long in the tooth), Cheney or Rumsfeld in the first GWB administration, or Jerry Brown.

Besides WWII, the comparison is actually rather apt on every level.

"Appeasement" failed because the British and French decided to box Germany in. Germany invaded Poland, not them. They started that war. Read Buchanan's book on the subject if you get the chance, I thought it did a good job of shattering the narrative surrounding why Britain guaranteed Poland's hold on Danzig.

Jerry Falwell Jr is a pedophile who supports ISIS.

I stand firm AGAINST that traitor.

Donald Trump thinks abusing children, tearing families apart, and bombing hospitals is hilarious.  Just another day as a racist real estate developer for him.

Are you talking about Trump or Obama's genocidal drone war?

Just curious: if Obama was killing the same civilians with bombs and snipers, would that be more okay?

No. Keep in mind, your talking to someone who only accepted the Bin Laden raid because the target was Bin Laden.

I don't have a problem with you being against the war, but why call it "Obama's genocidal drone war" when drones kill fewer civilians, as a percentage of total fatalities, than any other military weapon.

The term "genocidal" is hyperbole of course, which is probably the bigger error in the sentence than the drone comparison itself.
