I'm on limited capacity with this bill as I'm using my phone in a hotel lobby in NYC but I have serious concerns about this bill. As many other Senators have said we're a debating chamber, and I think there's a lot that needs to be looked at in this bill.

I hope for this reason that we won't rush towards a vote without the consent of the whole Senate

I've already made my qualms about this known in the House thread, so there is little chance that I will vote for the passage of this bill.

I'm going to offer one amendment, at least for now, to clarify the maximum fine prescribed in section 2:

Welcome to the Senate, Senator Scott!

I'll consider that amendment a friendly and it has been reflected in the bill.

Debate has stalled for nearly 72 hours without debate. Should that continue, I will open this to a final vote later tonight/tomorrow morning.

As I stated before, I support the bill in it's current form. I personally believe that life begins at conception and that is when it should start being valued, and thus would support going a step further. However, a 20 week ban is a more mainstream position. I think this bill is a good start, and next session will look to write additional legislation that allows for contraceptives to be more accessible, as well as expand on safe-sex education.

I'll have an amendment up in the next few hours. Sory for the delay.

In Clause 1 we say that abortion is legal before the 20th week of pregnancy, so why can't organizations/agents of fed. government facilities it if it's before the 20th week?

That is fine.

Senators have 24 hours for objections.

Out of interest since we're making a very very very big leap in health policy is there actually any proof that we need a 20 week ban is better than the current one?

24-26 is the current range; with some states at 22. 20 is the fetish of many on the right in RL (Scott Walker tried it)

I mean as I've said before people are seeing this through a political viewpoint- rather than through a health point of view. I mean what experience do people have in health policy/women's health policy? I'm writing this on my phone and will offer amendments when I have a laptop but this is a social health issue- not a conservative debating club

There is one more 20th week in Clause 5 you should add in.

24 hours for objections.

Right, I forgot that. Is another amendment necessary or can we consider it as 24 instead of 20?

I think this will be sufficient, intent is there.

My support is based on a study by The New England Journal of Medicine and other experts who have pegged the point of viability at 22 weeks. I can support moving it up to 22 - I cannot support 24.

I object to the current amendment.
