Senator.

On the "viewing it as a job" side:
As a Senator, you're only really responsible for your office staff/budget and your voting record, all things completely in your control. You only have to go through the rigors and intense fundraising of a campaign once every 6 years. No term limits, and good pay and benefits for yourself and family.

Unlike a Congressman, you have more independence and room to take initiative and leave your mark. And you also have much more influence over foreign policy than a Congressman.

But most of all, it's second to only the President and maybe Speaker in terms of influence on policymaking and government investigations, but you're more likely to be there at the table even more long-term than the current President or Speaker. You can definitely make your voice heard as Senator, and can easily get national attention for your views and ideas if that's what you want, again second to probably only the President, presidential candidates, and the Speaker.

The bully pulpit of the President is larger, but like I said, a Senator can still get that kind of attention if he/she wants. There's also much less scrutiny and stress as Senator, compared to President or Speaker, because you're only responsible for your votes and your office, not the country. A good Senator would of course worry about best serving their state and country at all times too, but if you mess up you're only one of 100, you can go on vacation and spend time with family without being forced to respond to events all across the country and over the world.

So yeah, extremely influential (just under the President), but much less of a stressful job.
