What an outrage! The good musicians of Illinois should surely rise up against this!

MUSIC IS ART!

Venues, for tax purposes. The dying art of rock, if less preferable for venues to hold, will only die faster. This is actually decently big news for the rock and roll community.

Well I don't consider Chicago a city, because real cities recognize art and have culture.

That's the sort of elitist attitude towards art that scares people away in the first place; and its really rather odd that someone in authority would still try and argue that considering that you have to be really quite old now to have grown up before rock music was a thing...  The fact that they've specified Electronica is also rather odd because that's only really a term used by hipsters who want to try and argue that their electronic music is more artsy than other kinds of electronic music - I mean lots of it is really rather good and its definately art; but unless the term is used differently now than it was a few years ago its not exactly a mass market term.

I approve of the whole Country thing though; that's clearly not art and should be gotten rid of very quickly

err what on earth are you talking about, there's still plenty of the stuff being made now.  Sure its evolved through time but its not like there aren't young people still into the stuff...

Of course not. This is a simply a shameless ploy by commercial establishments to evade taxes by taking a tax credit meant to help cultural establishments. Anyone with the slightest clue about the trouble cultural institutions go through just to stay afloat would see this for what it is. Denigrating member- and donor-supported establishments by equating them with venues where performers are paid hand over fist by fans of popular music to perform is ridiculous enough to be offensive.

Before you'll know it movie theaters will be asking for the same treatment as museums since they both "show pictures". Roll Eyes
