Cooper has been up 6-9 in the last 3 polls, and cracks 50% in all of them, regardless of the presidential results. I'm starting to wonder if McCrory is doomed.

Why is he underperforming Trump by so much? How can one be so incompetent, lol?

Cooper is a very strong candidate. If anybody can get crossover support, it's him. On the other hand, I'm fairly sure McCrory's days of attracting substantial crossover support are long over.

Is the anti-trans bill killing him at this point?
I don't understand honestly, after this bill passed PPP polls were basically Tie or  Cooper +1, so this bill would be retroactively killing him politically?

Anyone from NC please give us your thoughts about what is going on.

I wonder if it has got more to do with the fact that McCrory is terrible.

Remember back in like 2011/2012 McCrory was thought of as a possible future presidential contender lol

McCrory is scum, and he deserves a good thrashing. Hopefully these numbers hold up!

No surprise.

HB2 "Bathroom Bill" is causing the state to lose jobs.

If "Eisenhower Republican" McCrory is losing this badly, I almost fear that North Carolina Republicans are on their last legs.

^ Though to be fair, he gave up being a mavericky Eisenhower Republican after 2008.

That, and the nation has moved well to the left on transgender issues, while McCrory stayed right where he was.

McCrory was the mayor of Charlotte for 14 years.

A lot of Democrats thought that he was a moderate and voted for him in 2012.

That cross-over is now gone.

Good. His reactionary and tone-deaf approach to social issues earned himself such a thrashing.

Believe it or not, I probably would have voted for him in 2008 (I was only 16 at the time). Granted, I was raised in Charlotte and didn't pay as close attention to politics as I do now, but I would have been leaning towards him.

Hard to imagine a Cooper/Trump ticket-splitter though...

Trump hasn't really been pandering to the anti-trans folks like McCrory has.

Yes, he's always been weirdly pro-LGBT considering how he speaks about pretty much all other minority groups on a daily basis.  I think the gay vote this year will be at its most R since before DOMA and Don't Ask, Don't Tell.

Disagree. If Trump does worse than Romney across the board, he'll do worse with gays as well. Especially since most LGBT Americans tend to be well-educated and, like Mormons, are sensitive to all forms of persecution even against other groups.

I wonder if this is a function of his New York roots. I imagine in Trump's circles he actually has quite a few gay friends. That, or its just an issue that doesn't get him passionate.

Also opposition to LGBT rights is a mainstream conservative issue which is what Trump is trying to avoid. And...I don't know, but ranting against teh gayz just wouldn't really feel right with Trump's ideology.

Of course, Trump doesn't actually care about LGBT rights given his VP pick. He just doesn't hate them either.

There's also very little mileage to be gained on LGBT issues on the right these days: Mike Huckabee milked the Kim Davis thing for all it was worth, and it didn't seem to help him much. Cruz went after Trump hard on the transgender bathroom issue, and it didn't work and may actually have backfired.
