We'll see in coming polls, if voters think that it is a flip-flopping Smiley

I'm actually worried about this development because now we know that, after Trump loses, a segment of his base will double down and say that the only reason he lost is that he caved on immigration.

Also this has a tinge of irony to it:

Donald J. Trump ‏@realDonaldTrump  26 Sep 2015
Marco Rubio is a member of the Gang Of Eight or, very weak on stopping illegal immigration. Only changed when poll numbers crashed.

This is probably the worst case of hypocrisy I have ever seen.
Except for all of his other ones...

This would be like Bernie sanders coming out for cutting the taxes on the top 1%,. IT should hurt him with his base.

Doubtful, his base doesn't really care about his positions.
This. I say this is a wise move by the Trump campaign. Let's see how long he can keep it up.

Some of you are acting as if he has adopted Hillary's stance. All he said is that the "good ones" who have  been here for a long time will be permitted to stay. He never spoke of citizenship (or a pathway to it), nor has he retracted his support for tighter enforcement and a border fence.

No --- this would be like Bernie Sanders's announcing his plan to raise corporate taxes by 5% instead of 10%.  It's just a tweak on the position, not full reversal.

Exactly!
He've never been about deporting all the illegal immigrants Grin

Guys Trump is just returning to his roots (from 2013):

Quote
You must be logged in to read this quote.

Last year he said, "These are people that shouldn't be in our country.” and "We have at least 11 million people in this country that came in illegally. They will go out, they will come back, some will come back, the best, through a process ... it may not be a very quick process, but I think that's very fair and very fine,”

Now he's just like his 2013 self again. . . what goes around comes around I guess.

Trump hasn't "changed his position on immigration, he's just changed the words he's saying." - Pierson

Which is the same thing.

I almost feel bad for some of Trump's surrogates because of the positions he puts them in.
Katrina Pierson isnt one of them

One day, he’s for deportation, the other he’s against. Then he’s for muslim ban, then he’s for it only with certain countries before he’s against it at all. Then he’s for it again. Then he’s pro-choice, then pro-life with exceptions. Then he wants women to be punished, then just doctors. Then he backs off again. He can’t decide what he’s for and against. Moderate conservative, tea party, alt-right authoritarian. He can’t make a decision. Sad!

However, nobody believes the Trumpster anymore and voters won’t forget about his very first campaign speech.

As usual, the amnesty issue dwarfs all other issues related to immigration discussion.  If Trump was talking about abandoning other planks in his immigration platform, such as H1-B visas reform, birth-right citizenship reform, and the whole idea of an immigration plan geared for the benefit of American workers, that would be a big flip-flop, and of course the wall, but AFAIK he hasn't backed down from those ideas.

Pretty much low energy. Sometimes I think that Trump has actually no political convictions at all.

As of 3 PM pacific...no pathway to legal status unless they leave, will start deporting "bad dudes" on his first day as president:

It's so exciting to have something to check in on every hour. He should just pull a new plan out of a rolling cage like the lottery.

I'm fine with touchback amnesty as long as anyone who came to the US illegally for an extended period of time as an adult is permanently barred from getting resident alien status or citizenship. Some kind of special permanent non-resident alien status that would allow them to work, live, and travel within/outside the country would be best, and I'm sure it'd be fine with them if they truly did it as an "act of love" for their family. I'd be fine with their kids eventually being naturalized through the normal process if they weren't born here.
