MN GOP didn't know that the paperwork hadn't been sent in yet, will still make the 8/29 deadline

There is also some problems with the selection of electoral college electors.

Will the MN GOP amend their constitution in the next four days? Do they have time to call a state convention?

Hey, Minnesota deserves it. They've been with us since '72.

Everyone will probably look the other way, just like they did with Romney when technically he shouldn't have been on the Washington state ballot.

The most important part of this story is that, at least in MN, there is no reason to think the local GOP can make up for Trump's lack of campaign infrastructure. The RNC and state parties don't usually lead this, and they are ill-equipped to make up for the presidential candidate dropping the ball.

Ack, lost a larger post due to internet troubles, but anyway:

The MN state law is pretty clear here:

I attended the MN GOP convention as a seated alternate, and can confirm we did not nominate elector alternates.  (Strange that I didn't catch that, as I definitely read this section of MN law before the convention, as I was advocating using this section of the law to submit someone other than Trump as the "party candidate for president.")

The law requires that the convention nominate elector alternates, and it is too late to hold a convention now (the Call to Convention must be sent out at least 5 days in advance), and you can't change the Constitution (except in the particular areas, e.g. delegate selection, where we have delegated changes to particular committees) without a convention.

It's too late now; Trump should not appear on the MN ballot.  As an MN GOP alternate, I'm an aggrieved party, and if I still had standing (i.e. if I still lived in MN) I'd sue.

And Obama when he shouldn't have been on the Texas ballot.

Could Trump get on there as part of an ad hoc minor political party, like "Minnesotans for Trump" or something like that?

Yeah MN Dems shouldn't try to exacerbate this or anything; they have nothing to gain and everything to lose by pushing the "rigged" narrative.  Assist the dysfunctional MN GOP in getting Trump on the ballot so that the good people of MN can deliver him a good trashing at the ballot box fair and square this November.

I don't think MN dems should actively help the GOP by putting Trump on the ballot, but they certainly shouldn't challenge Trump being on the ballot if he in fact does qualify for it. They should just let the situation play out on its own

MN Dems making hay of this would massively further Trump's rigged system narrative, just like Cruz's stunt in CO with the convention helped Trump put the primary away.  It's a trap!

Spare me.  Trump will try and blame his and his party's incompetence on the Democrats?

I think most voters though not the idiot Trump supporters, are smart enough to realize that if Trump doesn't make the ballot in Minnesota, that's Trump's fault.

I'd like to be able to vote against him! No doubt I will.

But yeah this sums up the disaster that is the Minnesota GOP well if anyone was wondering. This is arguably even worse than when they got evicted from their HQ for rent non-payment.

Also LMAO@at the idea that a non-statistically irrelevant number of Somalis voted in the Republican caucus, or that his margin of victory could be accounted for by them even if every single one that's an eligible voter voted for him.

The precinct I caucused at has a fairly sizable Somali community; pretty sure every single person at my caucus was white or Hispanic.
