Austin sent both of them packing when they tried to strong arm city council and then tried to buy the public (happy to say I played my part in passing the referendum that slapped them down). Like everyone figured, some new, smaller companies picked up all their slack. The big one in Austin now is called Fare, but there's also one called Fasten. They work fine, no loss for the city.

It's all car service...I use uber if I need it just because that was what I first got send a code for. I don't actually care who drives me across town.

I have like 9 $5-off coupons left with Lyft, so that, I guess.

I've only used Uber in the past, but at some point in the future when I need a ride I may download Lyft and see which one is the better deal.

I always do Uber Select.  UberX is janky these days and they always try to put you in the damn pool.  Uber Select is like what it used to be, all Lincolns and Lexuses and Mercedes, none of this smelly Ford Fiesta with 300,000 miles on it crap.

Never tried Lyft but they flood my inbox with messages every week about exclusive promotions so they're on my sh**t list.

My kids use Uber from time to time, so I guess that.  Me and the wife have thought about driving for them, and may eventually.

To get to the airport, it's always Caltrain first, then switch to BART at Millbrae to get to SFO (to get to SJC, I just take a shuttle after getting off Caltrain at Santa Clara).   I'd imagine if I were closer to San Francisco I'd use BART more.

And home is the Midwest for me, should've clarified that.  Never driven in California before, though I've biked a good many miles.

I switched to T-Mobile last October. Lately, they give free stuff on Tuesdays. If anyone wants a free $15 Lyft code for Tuesday (and I think it has to be used within 24 hours of then), I'd be happy to give it to you. I have no use for it. If you want it or need it, first come first serve.

Both of them threw a hissy fit and left Austin when they didn't get their way (in a ballot initiative that they asked for and proceeded to run a dumpster fire of a campaign for), so Fasten, I guess.

Lyft has friendlier employees and is available in select smaller cities/towns in the US where Uber doesn't operate, but Uber is available in more international cities. Slight advantage to Lyft, which grants me a free 15$ ride each Tuesday thanks to some T-Mobile rewards program.

I have never paid for a ride or rode a taxi in my life. I was busy talking to plain bread.
