As long as does not mess up at the debates like he did before the primaries, perhaps he would be doing well.

If Lincoln Chafee won the Democratic Primary, it would mean either one of two things:

1. He ran the best campaign in recorded history.
2. He sold his soul to the devil.

Either way, he'd be ahead of Trump.

Echoing what Devout Centrist said, if Lincoln Chafee managed to win the Democratic primary, there's no way he wouldn't be decisively beating Trump now.

If somehow he became nominee (indictment or death/extremely bad health issue forcing Clinton out, the latter for Bernie, all occurring too late for Biden to get on most state's primary ballots and/or he stillb couldn't emotionally run, then Chafee beats O'Malley in the primaries), prob ably really damn well. No one could communicatte how the Trump party has left traditional non-crazy/racist Republicans behind.

If he explained clearly to the American people what the benefits of switching to the metric system were, we'd be in for a landslide. Makes me mad that he didn't talk about it in the first debate.

10 points behind Trump, because Chafee is a nice but fairly stupid man and does not contrast well with Trump's bullying.

He'd be well ahead of Trump. As would Sanders, O'Malley, or Webb.

LOL.
I found your choice of words funny : " .... if they didn't have emails."
But yes .... he would be leading trump.

He'd be ahead of Trump about as far as Hillary is; no more, no less.

The independent candidates would not be doing as well, but Chafee's lead would be more stable.

I'd think voters would be even less impressed than they are with their current choices; you'd be dealt the unpleasant experience of watching, well, Trump, go up against a guy who in any vaguely ability-based system would be having the living stuffing beat out of him for his lunch money. It'd be the biggest matchup of "lightweights" since... well, ever, really. The only comparable race I can think of would be the 1896 Vice Presidential election.

Chafee was the lamest of the Democratic candidates, but if he were the candidate, Trump would have been running a different campaign.  He'd be calling Chafee a "baby" and a "weakling", but he wouldn't really be able to hit him with anything concrete.  There are concrete things to hit Hillary with in this campaign that stick.

He'd be trailing because he's a low energy beta loser of the Jeb Bush variety. Trump looks strong against this type of opponent. He does much worse when his opponent won't go for his humiliation.

Even Stalin as a Democrat would be doing better than Lyin' Crooked $h*tlery!

/s

He'd be about even with Trump, since he just doesn't seem like the right kind of candidate to face Trump/attack him.
