How would've 1980 looked if Reagan had decided he was too old to seek the Presidency?

GHWB wins the nomination and selects Congressman Phil Crane as his running mate. Bush goes on to defeat Carter by a slightly smaller margin than Reagan did IOTL.

Mr. Nice Guy from Michigan is back. If he runs, he gets the nod and wins; if he forgoes the Republican nomination, it would be Poppy, who also beats Carter.

Why isn't Mondale Carter's running mate?

Without Reagan's charisma dominating the news, Ted Kennedy does enough better to force Carter to pick a like minded person or face a contested convention.

There might've been an interesting international reaction to the election of a man whose chief qualification was his service as CIA Director.

Reminds me of that scene in "The Americans" where, after Reagan's shot, they interpret Haig's assertion of things being under control as a sign of a coup.
