The first one that comes to mind is Lincoln Chafee, but most people in the other thread seem to think otherwise. So who would be the worst candidates to take on Trump?

Chafee for sure. As for folks who didn't run, but were mentioned. Warren wouldn't be doing much better than Clinton, Grayson would be losing in a landslide.

Sanders, The Chafe for sure. Webb due being even more racist than Trump. O'Malley would be down thirty points due to being very low energy.

Webb would be DESTROYING Trump.  A moderate southern democrat, former Reagan official, military experience, smart, articulate, Jacksonian populist who connects with working class whites, from swing state.

On the flip side, out of the 17 GOP candidates who ran, I think about 12 of them would have beaten Hillary.  The ones who would have lost are Carson, Huckabee, Santorum, Gilmore, Trump.

The #NeverTrump folks would have a much easier time backing Webb. And the Democratic base is much less likely to defect than the Republican one.

Chafee would have had to run the best campaign in history to win, so he'd be leading. I think O'Malley would be ahead, but by less than Clinton.

Sanders would be ahead by 5-8 points.

If Hillary didn't run, I think we'd be talking about a much different field than the one that we had, so it's kinda hard to say tbh.  Probably most democrats would be leading as long as they could contrast with Trump on the hot button issues.
