Actually, what you call a trait is a lifestyle choice. One which counters the national order of who you were made to be as a male. The science that says being gay is natural in some is highly questionable at best.

Those who come hither are generally of the most ignorant Stupid Sort of their own sexuality…and as few of the Straight understand the Gay Lifestyle, and so cannot address them either from the Christian Press or Pulpit, ’tis almost impossible to remove any prejudices they once entertain…Not being used to Straightnsss, they know not how to make a modest use of it…I remember when they modestly declined intermeddling in our Marriages, but now they come in droves, and carry all before them, except in one or two Regions...In short unless the stream of their importation could be turned from this to other websites, as you very judiciously propose, they will soon so out number us, that all the advantages we have will not in My Opinion be able to preserve our sexualities, and even our Government will become precarious.

In all seriousness, this is far more bigoted than anything else I have ever heard any major politician ever say, on Atlasia or in America. This is not dog whistling. This is not hints against "them". This is plain, open and overt homophobia. I agree with you completely, and I do get a lot of flak among my friends for being pro gay marriage (although I don't think government should force Christians to marry homosexual people). Unfortunately, whether you are Christian or not, humans are more than willing to look at other people's perceived flaws and tell them about it as a moral replacement to carefully examining their own character and adjusting it for the betterment of humanity.

At its core, this issue is an example of this. Christians are more willing to point out that "homosexuality is a sin" rather than stop and ask themselves "is what I'm doing bringing people closer to God?" Likewise, on the other side, non-Christians are completely ok with pointing out how Christian thinking is illogical, but don't stop to ask "is this really the best way to bridge the gap between the LGBTQ community and the Christian community?"

Ultimately, the best way to get change is to stop shouting opinions at each orther for a second, and I admit to doing this quite often, and take a peak inside ourselves and reevaluate our actions.

Anyway, Christians should love more, and we ask that the LGBTQ community is a little patient with us. Many Christians, among the crusading, have forgotten how to love.

This is the same tired line that bigots carry out every time they're held accountable for treating marginalized people in this country like second-class citizens or worse.  Sorry if that hurts your or JCL's delicate feelings, but the entire reason people are viewed as collectives in the first place is that society has told them that their lives are worth less than those who make up the majority, or that there's something distinctly wrong with them that merits exclusion.

If JCL insists on viewing people this way (and ignoring any evidence that challenges his beliefs), well I take pity on him and can only hope that his heart softens on this one day.  But he's not drawing Hagrid closer to God by telling him the same insulting, thoroughly discredited nonsense that he and the rest of the LGBT community have heard for years.
