I can't imagine the President of Mexico injecting himself into this mess.

I imagine the good people of Mexico would object to such a meeting.

That seems like a very dumb idea.

I guess it's happening:

Donald J. Trump ‏@realDonaldTrump  3m3 minutes ago
I have accepted the invitation of President Enrique Pena Nieto, of Mexico, and look very much forward to meeting him tomorrow.

This is f'ing bizarre... it'll make the immigration speech kind of watch-worthy.

Even though he's a heavy underdog, Trump could possibly be the next president. Mexico is a hugely important ally and neighbor and regardless of Trump's or Nieto's comments that isn't going to change. I think this is a good move for Trump, it's a presidential thing to do.

Just like in Louisiana, Trump looks Presidential, while.. where in the World is Hillary Clinton again?

Isn't the President of Mexico deeply unpopular and corrupt?

He only looks presidential. Meanwhile, Clinton is being presidential.

Indeed. I have a friend who is Mexcian and he has nothing but horrible things to say about EPN, and his opinions of him are generally reflective of the country at large.

Someone suggested this was a ploy by EPN to lay into Trump and improve his popularity. Trump is hated in Mexico.

Yeah how dare Clinton honor the requests of the Governor of the state, and not take advantage of a photo-op? Now, if only Clinton had done some work in the past that involved meeting foreign leaders. Hmmmmmmm if only.

I could believe that. Peña Nieto needs all the help he can get, his approval rating is at something like 30%. Of course, I also believe he is fully capable of messing this up, based on what I've heard about him.

You bet.

Hopefully, Trump takes the helicopter from and to the airport. Otherwise, we might get some pretty ugly protests along the route.

Interesting development. The Mexican President has said that he extended the invitation to both candidates but that Trump accepted and that he will talk to him. It is potentially an opportunity for both Trump and Pena Nieto to gain some PR points.

One scenario would be that Pena Nieto offers concessions to the US for NOT building the wall, allowing Trump to introduce a softer immigration approach. It would allow Pena Nieto to show Mexicans how he can handle potential crisis, while Trump could demonstrate to US voters how his rhetoric brings results.
