How racially diverse was your high/secondary school?

I'm quite curious, especially about the phenomena that is sometimes observed of auto-segregation. My schooling was fairly mixed - there was definitely cliques that skewed disproportionally Chinese or Ghanian or Greek or Indian; but I don't think there was any outright segregation. Is this different in America? Like are there black cliques and white cliques and Hispanic cliques?

It was in western North Dakota so...

Although as I've said many times my experience there is why I can't view Catholics as some sort of race or quasi-minority. There were plenty of kids there from Catholic families, no one thought of themselves as anything but white aside from the single digit number of kids who weren't and being from a Catholic or Protestant background had literally ZERO impact on cliques. Hearing the stuff on Atlas about this thus makes me so confused.

Minnesota, suburban St. Paul, 1975. I believe there were not more than 5 minority students in a high school of about 1500.

About 80% white 20% black.  Mostly self segregated when it came to lunch, school assemblies, and after school.  There were a few black kids who hung out with the white students and took AP classes, but they were mostly ostracized by the other black students and made fun of.  Guess who is going places now in life though, so I guess the jokes on them.

My high school is in a town containing two schools, and there was a degree of segregation happening before they got into the high schools - the difference in whites between them was 20 % pts, primarily due to a jump in Hispanic % in the other. Auto-segregation within the school itself was extremely prominent with some Asian integration but Asian cliques definitely still existed.

My university was naturally the whitest of all my schooling (~75%), and each minority group had their own groupings on campus. It took substantial effort to break down ethnic divides.

I think my graduating class was either just slightly more white than minority, or vice versa. Can't remember. It's pretty close either way.

I looked up the statistics out of curiosity. My high school is overwhelmingly white; at the moment (I graduated in 2015, so it hasn't changed too much), the demographics are:

4% Asian
4% Hispanic
2% Black
2% Two or more races

87% exaggerates somewhat -- there was a decent number of Arabic or Middle Eastern students (5-10% of the overall total, I would say) who are counted "white" but who were darker than Hispanics and tended to be friends only with each other much more strongly than the actual "minority" groups, who were mostly blended in with the white whole. I tended to take many, many AP classes and was also very active in the Academic Challenge team, so my own friend-group included a disproportionate amount of Asians (especially Indians), though it was still more white than not. But on the whole, it was very, very white.

Depends. Junior high, was probably ~60% white, ~35% Asian and ~5% Other. My actual class was more Asian-leaning as I was in the highest class for intelligence and they tend to be the most studious/intelligent in my experience. Senior high was more white (probably about 70% white?) as the smartest people at my junior high changed schools and where I live is very white so those who wanted to go to a specialist senior campus were almost all white.

In primary school....it was so diverse that for many of my classes I was often the only student in my class to have both parents born in Australia.

In terms of cliques though, was very segregated. In high school (especially senior high, less so junior high) most of the Asians hung around people of a similar racial background (with a few notable exceptions), ditto whites. Most of the 'ethnic' whites were fairly assimilated though so there wasn't really a Greek or Italian clique for example, however it probably would be the case out further west in Sydney.

Pretty much entirely white - we had two Asian kids from the local area who were (funnily enough) both the children of doctors, and then we had another couple from the nearest city who managed to slip into the school despite not living in the catchment area (both of whom were eventually expelled, one for dealing drugs and the other for attacking one of the doctor's kids with an iron bar).

23 out of 26 pupils German; a Japanese, one Greek and one Italian at college. The previous years we had an Indian as well, but he had to go back to highschool due to poor grades.
