Yeah this is what I was thinking.  Timing matters a lot obviously.  If the presidential election were held on November 1994, Clinton would have lost CA.  If the election were held on November 2002, Bush would have won both CA and NY.

If Democrats nominate a terrible (maybe corrupt) candidate while a very puoular incumbent president runs for reelection after a time of crises. A latino or black version of John Kasich or Charlie Baker for example.

I think it's actually quite possible that a Republican will win New York in a future election.  California....eh....although it could happen, not so much.  :-/

This thread is so useless. If we assume the U.S. to be in a vacuum where the party structure--as in the same two major parties--goes uninterrupted, and where the U.S. continues to exist, but where internal events can interact dynamically, the GOP will eventually win one of those states.

Schwarzenegger is a naturalized citizen, and therefore ineligible to run.
