I don't get the Lena Dunham hate. She's the voice of her generation, she said that herself

Hence the Lena Dunham hate.

I don't know a single person in real life who feels 'spoken for' or even 'represented' by anyone on Girls, because although I am slowly pissing away the hard-earned fortune of much older, wiser, and in most cases more deceased members of my family than I like a latter-day Makioka sister, I'm certainly not doing so in the interests of ego-tripping hipster psychosexual drama.

She said all Hispanics are rapists. That's not a joke.
I'm pretty sure it was.  You might have missed the joke part as it was on everybody that thought she was serious.

Her standup special from a few years ago "Mostly Sex Stuff" was hilariously laugh out loud funny. I saw a few episodes of her Comedy Central show but soon lost interest. She was so vile and gross during her monologue when she hosted SNL I was surprised they allowed it to air. So aside from SNL she is awesome.

I don't get the Lena Dunham hate. She's the voice of her generation, she said that herself and I tend to believe it.

To the extent I agree with this, I think it reflects poorly on said generation.

But can you blame them? The exigencies of intersectional progressive thought in 2016 pull people in contradictory, opposing directions. Take this interview of Priyanka Chopra from the same website:

Quote
You must be logged in to read this quote.

This is obviously wrong, according to the required world view. Colorblindedness is at best naive and at worst-- which here means "actually"-- is a means of perpetuating white privilege and the oppression of people of color (see here). (As an aside I would like to register my continuing objection to the usurpation of the term "brown people", which clearly is supposed to refer to South Asians, by Hispanics; also note the capitalization of "Black".)

Chopra falls into language of "all women", which marginalizes the experiences of Black and brown women, and veers dangerously close to the invisibilizing sloganeering of "All Lives Matter".

Yet the same website not only fails to condemn her, but paints her in a positive light! A right winger can almost sympathise for the poor "woke" progressive who tries to keep up with it all; if not empathise outright, thanks to Donald Trump. Also, Idris Elba should obviously be the next James Bond.

In a way intersectionality is kind of like chivalry, in that people are expected to live by a complex code of conduct that nobody can keep up with in every aspect. In some ways it's even worse though, in that chivalry at least didn't change day by day.

Living in a very progressive area, I can easily empathize with people who have to worry constantly about whether they are saying the right thing; I've seen it happen plenty. I just avoid talking to them about politics, even on issues where I agree with them. Political discourse with the "woke" progressive is like walking through a minefield.

Yes but that's an excuse some people use, it's not the main reason so many dislike her.

Hence the Lena Dunham hate.

I don't know a single person in real life who feels 'spoken for' or even 'represented' by anyone on Girls.............

I tend to agree, I've just always loved her boldness in making that statement. It doesn't matter if its not true, its the one quote I always remember from her.

Couldn't care less about all the social justice drama swirling around her.  She's just annoying, fake, trying too hard.  Her main accomplishment is inventing the "I'm a real chick, not some fake one you see on Cosmo magazine, all I want to do is lie on my couch wearing dirty clothes, eat ice cream and finger myself all day AM I RIGHT LADIES?" brand of jokes.  I feel like she's been forced on society as "the funny female comedian" as though she's some icon of modern women.  But she's just not a good comedian, because she can't get outside her little box and her delivery, it's just her nervously purring out her stories like she's desperate for approval.  Go watch Joan Rivers if you want a good female comedian, she can joke about anything and has infectious enthusiasm.

Also, Amy definitely stole those jokes she's been accused of stealing, it's very obvious.

People's love and admiration for narcissists is one of the absolute worst thing about modern society. It's the same reason why a person like Drumpf could be the next President. It's just sickening. Whatever happened to social norms of humility and self-restraint?

Again, bring back Jante's law!

Lena Dunham comes across as a little girl going to extreme lengths to overcompensate for a painful insecurity, so I don't hate her so much.
