At least blind partisan loyalty has its limits for some people.

Would have expected him to endorse McMullin. But, given his record as MA Governor I guess I'm not too surprised. And one of his predecessors is on the other half of the ticket.

If Weld was at the top of ticket, I think Romney would be going all in for the them.

Romney's not running for office any more. He doesn't care what people say. I bet there are a more like him who are in the closet.

The level of butthurt in those comments to his post is hilarious. I have never liked Romney at all, but blindly partisan hacks annoy me much more.

I'm not so sure about that.  I think he does care what people say, but his incentives are now different from when he was running for office.  Presumably, he now cares about his legacy, and thinks that history will look at Trump as being sufficiently terrible that those who endorse him will not be viewed kindly.

lol who care

Also, I don't know why you get from this that he's close to endorsing Johnson.

...he expressed a desire for a scenario that would only transpire if he endorsed Johnson, he's said positive things about Johnson in the past, and he clearly isn't a big fan of Hillary or Trump?

If Romney's on the fence between Johnson and McMullin (as previous reports have indicated), an endorsement wouldn't make sense. If he wants an alternative in the debates (especially if that alternative is Gary Johnson), endorsing Johnson would be the way to go.

I wish he would've outright endorsed him. That major of an endorsement could push Johnson over the 15% support threshold he needs to reach.

Romney should really just get out of his shell and endorse Gary already.

The only one of his three predecessors that he actually gets along with and that like each other. Cellucci hated Romney and Romney basically forced Jane Swift to retire. There was a lot of bad blood with the middle two GOP Governors of the four and they both endorsed people other than Romney in 2008 (I think Thompson and McCain but I might be wrong on the first one).

I support Hillary and hope Gary makes the stage, even though I know Hillary would benefit from being face-to-face with Donald.  He's done better than any third-candidate in a long time, and I think the hard 15% cutoff is too high.

Agreed. The lesser face time Donald gets in the debates, the smarter we all will be afterwards. (In fact, it would've been nice to have a five person debate at some stage - UK style - including Stein an McMullin as well, just to broaden the discussion a little and not talk about the same old things over and over again to boredom, like Hillary's e-mails and Trump's fantasy wall. After more than a year of hardly discussing any other matter than these two pretty insignificant things, it's all getting slightly tedious.)

Something we can agree on. Only election I ever sat out on was his. He sucked as a "Republican."
