Assuming Hillary wins this yr by solid margin, but enters office most unpopular President inaugurated in modern polling era, GOP able to block everything of any consequence, her numbers dip to Approval: 35-40% and Favorability: 30-35% entering 2019.

In this scenario does Bernie sanders seek the Democratic nomination?

And by "Somebody Else" I don't mean the Paul Farrells of the world but rather a person of repute in some kind.

I can see Russ Feingold challenging Clinton in 2020 if they each win this November.

I hope that was the deal bernie made with him to give him access to mailing list.  Doubt it tho.  Is hilarious Bernie has that mailing list as a weapon.  Just comes into the hands of a 74yr old man.

2018 will be the big year for him to see if he has a chance.  2017 we should be able to tell if he will be a force in 2018 elections - but who knows. I would suggest less money in symbolic races like Canova and hopefully more spread around the country.  If you roll a 10-sided dice 50 times you might get somewhere.

He'd be too old, but someone else likely would.

Maybe.
It Clinton's favorability numbers are really bad, and it looks like she could be a one-term-President, then Sanders might try again.
I actually hope that Biden would give it a try (but again, only if Hillary's approval/favorability numbers are low/bad).

No, for reasons 3 and 4 (only 3 if Hillary doesn't run again in 2020.)

At 78 years old? Come on now...

But I could see Warren running if Clinton's approvals are in the tank

Nope, this was his chance. He's not only too old but he won't challenge Clinton as the sitting president, she'll remain at least decently popular among the base. A serious catastrophe (like a 20% approval rating) would have to happen for anyone else to challenge her. The Democratic Party has many more options anyways.

No, because it would obviously backfire. When the progressives did challenge a Democratic incumbent president for being too centre in 1980 the end result was Ronald Reagan. The two following Democratic presidents governed even further right but were not challenged and won their reelections.

No, too old. But in this situation, he'd probably be the most important endorsement in the primaries.

No, because the 2014 Dems running for Senate already endorsed her and they will be again in 2020.

Are you insane?  Obama is on par with LBJ, perhaps left of him depending on how much weight you give to foreign policy.

Yeah Obama may not be a true leftist hero but he is way to the left of Clinton or Carter.

Bernie will be too old, and I don't see Warren doing it. The only person with enough stature to who might would be Fiengold but even that would surprise me unless Hillary starts a war or something.

No, too old.

If there is a challenge from the left, it's Warren. But won't happen.
