A prime example of an issue in which the opposition is more passionate and organized than the majority who support the policy:

Poll: Most Americans say that globalization is a positive and that free trade improves their lives

I support free trade as an ultimate goal (since it kind of goes along with open borders), and I support it in the present to some extent, but I'm a bit skeptical of some of the specifics of it in the present day.

At least this is more substantive than that stupid article you posted in the Congressional elections board.

And yet Republicans and Democrats in the primary said free trade takes more jobs from Americans than creates new ones. Although the demographics that most supported Trump are the ones that least think these things are good.

The majority does not likely understand the issue at hand. Organized minorities typically are organized for a reason, because we get it and have real reasons for opposition.

Seeing as protectionism and nation-states are literally an invention of the (((elite))) so they could hoard wealth and divide  the international working-class, pretty funny that you claim to be a socialist.

What? That's a bit of a, well, unreconstructed Marxist viewpoint.

You don't have to be a trot to recognise that all nation states are basically middle class abstractions that had to be imposed on people, often at thr cost of local cultures. In retrospect the "so" was an unwise choice of words - i doubt the inventors of France, America or India were cackling about subjugating people. But subjugation has been a direct consequence of nation state idolatry, especially in the globalised world.

One response in the Comments notes who did the polling: “the Chicago Council on Global Affairs.”

I agree—this should be dismissed.

And people who are worried about their job security or lack thereof are more likely to get exercised by this issue than those who appreciate cheaper goods.  Thus the anti position remains the more politically potent even if it is the minority view (which varies widely in these surveys).    This is not like the late 1990s where you had a lot more people believing free trade was good for jobs.
