Why did Chic Hecht lose his Senate reelection bid? Was it his performance as a senator and Richard Bryan being a strong candidate?

It's kind of hard to find information about this stuff and I was pretty young at the time.

His performance as Senator was called into question (he missed a lot of votes or something like that). Personally, I think Hecht is a MASSIVE FF for his role in lobbying Pres. Reagan to help Soviet Jews, but Hecht did have his flaws.

Also, this didn't help him.

That being said, I think Hecht was a fantastic Senator who is unfairly demonized by the left.

I used to live in Nevada and it was pretty Republican not too long ago.

Some of his gaffes were indeed amusing.
