No because Trump said worse things in the past.

She's been too passive in her rhetoric. This is good for the Democratic base.

If anything, it's a reverse 47% moment.

No .... not even  close !
1.) This was a deliberate speech line.
2.) The media was in the room.
3.) The media's cameras have this on tape, and Hillary knew the cameras were there.

So basically .... there was no "hidden camera" that recorded her words and then the tape was secretly released to the media (unlike the Romney incident).

No. Reason: It's kind of true.

Compared to Romney's 47% comment which was disputable.

4.) It's also true, whether they like it or not.

Because slamming as moochers the poor and the elderly is the same as slamming the racists, homophobes and anti-semites who are Trump's base.

In the way that it will create a lot of headlines but barely change the dynamics of the race, yes.

Yeah, really. Romney seemed to cement himself as a heartless plutocrat with that comment, but Clinton here is just calling people out for what seems to be obvious, at least if you go by people at his rallies and polls showing the absurd beliefs of a sizable number of Trump supporters.

Plus, going by the numbers, she only really insulted like 20% of Americans, which is probably lowballing it in terms of # of sexists/racists/xenophobes/etc, whereas Romney basically said 47% of Americans were poor moochers that he didn't really care about appealing to.

I don't hold that comment against her at all. I'm actually slightly glad a politician didn't attempt to gloss over the fact that a large portion of our country are indeed bigoted assholes. I sure as hell am not making excuses for those people.

And neither did the 47% moment. It just extended Obama's convention bounce for a few weeks.

The difference is that most Democrats, as well as many Republicans and Independents, legitimately fear Trump's supporters, and with good reason.

No, because she's actually right.

Everything this does is getting her supporters to the polls, but it does the same for the Trump supporters.

So, it doesn't really change the dynamics of the race.

No, because it's blatantly true, and everyone that's not a Trump supporter knows it and sees it everyday.

If this becomes normal for her campaign to put out statements like this I'll be HAPPY

Actually it is just an act of message discipline, as it fits into a campaign narrative she was already pushing publicly.  Clinton cannot be accused of saying one thing about the bigotry of Trump's supporters in public and something entirely different in private.  It also has the benefit of being true.  You can't say any of that about Romney's comments.

She was incredibly wrong. She should not have said "half" of his supporters.

She should have said EVERY SINGLE ONE because it's deplorable to support a fascist, racist xenophobe even if you don't conform to his every view. People like Paul Ryan are getting a pass for mainstreaming and legitimizing this type of candidate.

God knows that I am no fan of Hillary, but I appreciate the apology and I consider it to be sincere. First of all, Hillary is the consummate politician who has been pursuing the Presidency for years. She knows the game and she knows that comments like this do not go over well. That being said, she is right (I want to barf for typing that) that there is a deplorable element of Trump supporters (David Duke and company) who are hijacking the movement just like they tried to do with the Ron Paul movement. So while of course her comments and subsequent backtracking are politically motivated like literally everything else she does, I am still reasonable enough to know what point she was trying to make.

Definitely doesn't help her out on the whole "I'm totally likable!" thing that she's been going after. I don't see this causing her any problems unless Trump ties it in with the bigger picture, which I'm sure he's itching to do.
