I live in Madison County, Illinois.

The closest county that I haven't been to yet in Illinois is  Greene County or Perry County.

As for Missouri, it's Warren County.

I did go to Perry County in 2022, so it leaves Greene County on the list for closest Illinois county that I haven't been to. Missouri: still Warren County.

Jackson County, Oregon

That's just over 300 miles by car. I've been to every county in CA and NV.

Hit this in November of 2019. I think Lake, Oregon is probably the next one.

Over two years later and it’s still Lake, Oregon for me.

Looking at a map, once I get Lake and Harney in Oregon, it’ll be a toss up between a lot of counties. Oregon, Idaho, Utah, and Arizona all have possible contenders.

Edit:

Closest counties:
1. Lake, OR
2. Harney, OR

Approximately a three way tie by road distance, ordered by straight line distance:
3. Grant, OR
4. Juab, UT
5. Payette, ID

I just visited there for the first time last week. I stopped at the Mission Dolores historic site.

After stopping at Mission Dolores I spent twodays driving through NW LA and SW AR, completing those states and pushing my nearest unvisited county out.

Here's my updated list based on states that I could reach by only traveling through completed states.

Garland AR (686 mi)
Eddy ND (745 mi)
City of Manassas Park VA (747 mi)
Pottawatomie OK (755 mi)
Chatham NC (790 mi)
Bienville LA (936 mi)
Dewey SD (822 mi)
Lamar TX (859 mi)
Fremont WY (1134 mi)
Blaine ID (1694 mi)
Kern CA (1916 mi)
Harney OR (2067 mi)

I've been to the battlefield in Chalmette as a kid, and my English teacher was a Katrina refugee from there. Plaquemines Parish always seemed geographically interesting. It probably has more Mississippi Riverfront than any other county-equivalent.

Probably the Essonne department (the only department in the Ile-de-France I have not been to as of yet), although the Oise department is pretty close too, with the Eure a little bit further off

I went to the battlefield in Chalmette as a kid as well (I went once when I was 11), thus I've been to St Bernard Parish. And I went there by steamboat, which was pretty cool.

I've never been to Plaquemines Parish though.

Yuma County, AZ, which is also the only county in AZ other than Greenlee County that I have not been to.

I measure by driving time and distance. I let mapping software find me the shortest route to a county, but I know it filters out routes that would be significantly more time.
