Yes, been browsing for eight or nine years now.  I remember when it was actually good.

One of my best friends in high school was a huge /pol/ user and showed me some funny threads at times, but I never really got into it myself.

Good heavens, no, though I once commented on a YouTube video that was pretty hilarious featuring a /pol/ soccer game. Trump had a sick goal.

No.  Can someone explain to me what it is?  I've heard the name bandied about here but never really knew what its purpose was

It's an 'imageboard' (a concept imported from the Japanese internet) where convention is to post anonymously. In the late 2000s it was a breeding ground for weeaboos and apolitical-but-still-tacky-and-classless memes--this was when I posted on it. Now, it's primarily known as an alt-right cesspool. I don't know if the anime-related boards are still any good or not and I don't particularly care.

Thanks, Nathan.  It appears I haven't missed anything.  Smiley

I've never posted on that site, but I've seen the random board maybe like twice before and each time it was same reaction: What the ****?

Whatever server(s) are hosting that site should be taken to a steel mill and thrown into the molten slag, Terminator-style.

I was a teenager in the late 2000s, and I never postedon 4chan.

I think I'm like 2 years younger than you though.

I remember in 2008 that it actually had a modestly left-wing tinge to it, before /pol/ came along and pretty much all political discussion was confined to /b/, which was very pro-Obama.  The alt-right scum started popping up around 2011 or so and it only got worse from there.  moot took /pol/ down temporarily (which was called /new/ at the time) and brought it back promising to shut it down again if the Stormfronters took it back over.  We saw how that went out.  Then he sold it last year, so now he has no involvement whatsoever.

/x/ and /lit/ are still decent, though.
