Well it seems that you've successfully hijacked this thread with the discussion of the useless word "yall".
Useless?

Yes "you guys" is much better! Grin
A guy is a male, so it dosen't.

I wouldn't understand people not from the north to get something like this.
Lol, I get it now.  "You guys" in the North, it's perfect.

"Y'all" is about 100,000 times better than that ubitquitous "You guys" that you hear so often in the Northeast/Midwest.

I often hear "you guys" when I'm out on a date with a woman from a waiter/waitress.  It makes me want to punch him in the head.  I am not going out with a guy, unlike others who populate this forum.

So what's the problem?  It's obvious to everybody in that situation - you, the waiter, and the woman you're with - what's going on.  Why do you feel that his choice of words is an affront to your sexuality?

I'd much prefer to use two words that don't literally apply, than one word that isn't actually even a word.

The only thing I can figure is that many of your women up here (esp. in New England) look like men already, that "you guys" is quite an accurate description.  Tongue

Yall doesn't sound any more stupid than any other contraction, such as wouldn't (pronounced "wutent") or wasn't (pronounced "whatent").

Is my country under threat again? I really don't want to have to run to the Windsor-Detroit border with a Shotgun and a back pack of military rations... again.

It's two words. "You all".
Actually I've heard it stands for "ya all," making the position of the apostrophe ambiguous, either "ya'll" or "y'all."
Except that ya is not an english world.
