Bush gets re-elected with a booming economy in 1992 after taking out Saddam Hussein.  I see no other potential nominees in 1996 besides these two.  How does the map look after 16 years of Republicans in the White House, but a very dull, elitist candidate?

If someone like Kerry can win West Virginia, Kentucky, and Missouri, he's winning Indiana. Especially if Evan and Birch Bayh campaign with him.

Also, I think Birch Bayh would run for Senate in 1994 in this scenario to be a strong recruit for the Democrats. He'd likely retire in 2000, but for him, six years is plenty of time to do something important.

I picture Kerry having similar regional strength (or lack thereof) to Dukakis, albeit with a higher percentage of the vote against a nominee such as Dole. Something like this (assuming a 3-4% national win for Kerry)
