Let's not get ahead of ourselves... any competitive place that has a rural society, that will happen. 6% of 12% of the electorate is like 720,000 voters. 21% of 24% of the electorate is 6,000,000 voters. Even the last person you expect to vote for someone might be passionate the other way. That's what makes the likes of Jon Tester and Ed Shultz so powerful and the likes of Alan Keyes or Kellyanne Conway so powerful as well. It shows that people are willing to stand against you for the common good and even against what you (or even them) perceive to be their private and partial interests.

(I seriously think people are underestimating Trump's support among African Americans. I doubt he'll do much better than Romney, but I just flat out don't believe the 1% number. All I have to go on is purely anecdotal evidence here, and I'm not trying to win any argument, but from talking to black friends over the years, I think there is a much deeper discontent with illegal immigration than people think. However, most of my politically active black friends are more concerned with police brutality and criminal justice reform and how those issues harm black America.)

You're way off base, my friend.  People across the nation - especially the African American community - who oppose discrimination and racial vilification will not be supporting the Birther-in-Chief, Donald J. Trump.

Trump has a long record of contempt for minorities and a few token gestures are never going to change that.
