No.  The mods literally have a safe space here.

Not sure what the story is behind this.

OK, so if I can't call a mod "dumbfock", can I still say "dumbfu*k"?

In my view, Mods should be punished more than others when they stray from the TOS, and when Mods are attacked, the attackers should be punished less, at the margins. It goes part and parcel with Mods having more authority than other posters. So, it would have been "no" anyway, for any poster, but when it comes to Mods, the answer is "no!" Smiley

I believe that was related to the second ban, not the original one. But I wasn't a mod during the original set of incidents, just a poster.

And yet I bet there are very few posters willing to actually report a moderator.

I just dug up the thread on the mod board discussing the original ban in 2007, and it involves a thread in which Jamespol calls Alcon a "dumbfock" and tells Straha "go f*** yourself b**ch".  He was also said to PM people things like "GO TO HELL YOU BASTARD TEXASINDY AND I HATE YOU".  That's described as "the last straw" by the mods at the time, and Dave then banned him.  There were subsequent returns that also led to re-bannings.

That thread also talks about him lying about Jake sending him porn?  I wasn't really involved in the "community" side of the forum at that time, so don't really know what that's about.

The thread got moved to the mod cave board.  It's old enough that it pre-dates the reporting board, so if one wanted to keep a record of why something was deleted from the forum, that was the way it was done back then.

It depends on the culture of the message board in question.  Many places ban for much less than that , if there is a pattern at least.  A few will ban for just that, but they always make the rules very clear to anybody half paying attention.

Here?  HA! No.  Perhaps in a straw that broke the camels back kind of way, but no, someone shouldn't be banned out of the blue from here for a simple insult.

(and I'm talking about any intentional dodge of a profanity blocker combined with an insult to any other poster, not just a mod.  Mods shouldn't be held to a higher or lower standard when they are attacked, but like all positions of authority (we all agree very little authority, but some none-the-less) they should be held to a much higher standard when they are the aggressor.)

Oh well, that makes a lot more sense then. I think that happened while I was still a poster here, but I wasn't paying attention to these stuff at the time. I just remember the word because it made me chuckle.

I would say, if it was an isolated incident, of course not.

If it was in conjunction with other incidents, than yes.

I would like to note that incidents mentioned earlier in this thread occurred 3 years prior to the dumbfock incident. Though the poster in question (yours truly) was not particularly well behaved, but was not a spambot either. Ironically that was around the same time when the update saga started, lol.

But that is all the past... way past.

Severely off-topic, but have you ever gotten into a heated argument on this forum? I just can't see it.

But more importantly: Do you own a corncob/briar smoking pipe? I don't think I can go another day without knowing this.

Just for reference, I didn't want Jamespol banned for that, Dave decided that that was unacceptable and unilaterally pulled the trigger there.

I don't smoke, but I do enjoy deep discussions in the lounge over a glass of fine wine, wearing my tweed jacket. Smiley
