Yet another example of right-wingers thinking that political correctness only applies to the other side... but isn't this nine months old?

In any other election this would be the end for Trumps campaign. This guy is anti-first amendment and any libertarian or freedom loving conservative that can vote for him after this isn't what they say they're.

This isn't news, this happened many months ago, and he's completely right.

But who cares about freedom of speech and expression when Hillary "lied about emails" and will "take away all the guns". Naïve people who will be shocked when Trumper turns against them too.

Oh. I stand corrected.

Sickening. The man who claims to be pro-Constitution... and then calls for the repeal of the First Amendment. The right to demonstrate against the government is an integral part of democracy; Trump further reveals his Putinism.

Right wingers are triggered by anything which offends their sensibilities. Ironic because they are also the biggest whiners about political correctness

The Right wing aren't really pro-constitution, just pro-what they believe. What they believe is paying as little taxes as possible while watching the rest of the country go to hell. Oh'did I say that they were really religious and will govern that way on social issues...The small government act is bs.

No Donald, it is those who think the 1st Amendment needs to be cut back who are foolish, and indeed dangerous. The robust application of the 1st amendment is one of the things I am most proud of in the US. Your point of view if it were applied, would make me considerably less proud of our great nation. You're a fool Donald, and a dangerous one.

There does come a point where speech becomes conduct.  I'm loathe to invoke this principle in general, but there are times when it does apply.

If Congress officially declared war on various jihadist groups, spreading their propaganda would, under our Constitution, with no changes needed, rise to the level of Treason.

The Constitution applies to EVERYONE in this country, good or bad.  If you start suspending rights for "bad guys", the definition of bad guys will only expand.

An interesting question for Trump: would he have favored treating Timothy McVeigh (another domestic terrorist) the same way?

If Trump is already attacking the First Amendment as supposed grounds for the attack in NYC, what's to say he won't attack other amendments for similar situations?

Hypothetical: Say he wins the presidency and a couple of radicalized Muslim-Americans in different parts of the U.S. commit mass shootings. What would stop him from blaming the Second Amendment and him actually taking away everyone's guns?

How do you consolidate for a candidate who clearly does not care for the constitution or Americans' rights? Even if you're okay with him undermining the First Amendment (you shouldn't be!), why would he stop there?

Yes, they are. The Republican electorate, not simply Trump's base, sincerely believes or at least tolerates these ideas coming from Trump and have for the past several decades. If this is not true, then where's the political realignment? Where is the large swath of Republicans defecting from Trump? Neither exists. They only defend the constitution when it's convenient and benefits them, such as when a Democrat's in office or when right-wing bigots exercise their right to spew hate. But when it applies to those they view as enemies, especially when they're in power, then you'll watch them coming up with countless reasons why we can dispense with it.

If this is cool with them, and considering their obsession with money = speech, why don't they want to protect this country from corruption and wealthy people/corporations buying off politicians? They are, and have been doing far more damage to our society than terrorism ever has.

Such as a Presidential candidate who openly opposes the Constitution? If you want to claim that the fat orange fascist is already guilty of treason, I won't argue with you.
