I didn't see a thread yet on this topic. So all discussion can go here. If Clinton and Trump respond, this can be moved to the 2016 board or a new thread can be created over there, whichever works best.

Note that the police department very quickly threw this officer under the bus. That's rare. The only other case I can think of like that was Walter Scott's killing in NC. That shows that they realize just how indefensible this one is.

And yet it speaks even greater volumes about similar killings (Philando Castile, Alton Sterling) where officers got zero reprimand.

Chicken Cop.   Shouldn't never have been hired and clearly 1st degree murder. Unfortunately  using the defense acting under the color of law will get her manslaughter.  Should be lethal injection.

Absolutely egregious. The cop needs to be charged.

A lot of the time people jump to judgement on cases like this, but in this situation where you have video evidence of an execution it's clear cut and disgusting. Should be a countrywide requirement for police to have body cameras on that can't be turned off. Likely would make the bad police act differently or at least can make the bad ones pay for it if they don't.

Like most of these, I don't know if he should have been killed, but I know what he could have done to make him alive today....and so do most of you.  Again, not saying he should have been killed just that if he had listened to and done what the cops instructed him to do he would not have been shot.

Become a white guy?  That seems like what it would have really taken.

Disgraceful. The problem with the police has to be addressed but without generalizing "all cops are bad dudes".

Disobeying a police officer can be a misdemeanor or a felony, but it cannot be a capital crime where the officer is the judge, jury and executioner.

An officer should be required, before firing their gun at someone, to deduce their life is in immediate danger. If the person they killed turns out not to have had a deadly weapon on their person, the officer should at the very least be charged with manslaughter.

What did they expect tonight, peace and harmony? It's sad, but not surprising.

Sounds like a protester was just killed by someone who thought no one should be protesting

She's been charged with manslaughter, which was the right move, I think. Would be challenging to prove the intent for murder, but she was at least clearly reckless.

I like what one protestor asked, why do they (cops) have to be so quick to shoot?

Yes, why?

I like what one protestor asked, why do they (cops) have to be so quick to shoot?

Yes, why?

Because the proliferation of guns across inner city America has turned many of these places into virtual warzones.  These cops are civilians going out there with inadequate training most of the time, worried about coming home at night.  Im not necessarily talking about this specific shooting, but police are not soldiers, and yet in many places theyre being put in situations comprable to Baghdad.
