Actually from what I understand the Democrats are to blame for it this time around.

So Democrats are to blame for the party that is in the majority in both chambers being unable to pass spending bills?

They were the ones to block it, though to be fair 12 Republicans also voted against it. Democrats voted against it because it did not include money for Flint Michigan to address the water crisis.

Even though Dems are objectively responsible for this one, optics of gov shutdowns typically harm the GOP because A) they've done it before and B) they're the "anti-government party" - even if Dems partly responsible, our media can't handle that kind of cognitive dissonance.

I do think trying to get Flint funding is laudable, though.

I'm really not sure what we should do on this. I have a feeling Republicans will cave rather than risk being blamed for yet another government shutdown, but do we want to risk being blamed right before an election?

As someone who was born in Flint, who has family in Flint, and who goes to school in Flint, part of me would rather lose any other election than allow the people of that city to continue suffering because the Republicans don't care about people of color. But this isn't just any election.

They're literally in charge - they should've been able to pass it. I've never seen a more useless majority than the one the Republicans have right now. All they had to do was agree to actually helping the people of Flint, Michigan instead of just paying lip service to it. They should stop protecting their (literally) toxic Governor.

Would love the good October surprise being "Republicans still can't govern worth a sh**t"

The question is: does Paul Ryan have a majority or not? Right now it appears that he doesn't. Not good!

I'm not really surprised that cyclops Harry Reid would want to shutdown the government again on his way out of office. It's been 5 years so I guess its safe for the Democrat hacks to change positions on "obstructionism".

It's not a deal until it has the necessary votes on the floor of the House.
