Old Republic

31st: Herbert C. Hoover (R-CA), March 4, 1929 - January 9, 1933

Narrowly reelected in 1932 against Democratic ticket of Franklin D. Roosevelt and Huey P. Long, despite his deep unpopularity. Strong evidence of voting fraud, as well as FDR's assassination in Florida (though without any involvment from Hoover) led to the military deposing him.

Long Era

Military Junta of 1933, January 9, 1933 - January 30, 1933

Chaired by retired General John J. Pershing, the junta governed in a brief period between Hoover's deposition and Long's inauguration.

32nd: Huey P. Long (D-LA), January 30, 1933 - August 7, 1945

Ruled as constitutional President until 1940 (reelected in 1936), before assuming dictatorial powers with U.S. entry into the WWII, which included extending his term. Long's administration, the longest ever, saw dramatic changes of American society under his "Share our Welfare" program. Enjoying a strong popularity across the nation, in 1944 Long decided to found two parties which would represent two wings of his base: a moderate New Democratic Party (NDP) and leftist Labor Party. Despite leading the United States to victory in the WWII and his domination on political scene, Long was forced to resign by the military. Both NDP and LP supports, more or less, the "postwar consensus", while conservative opposition is largely dominated by the National Union Party.

33rd: Harlan F. Stone (I-NH), August 7, 1945 - January 3, 1946

Chief Justice of the United States installed as a compromise pick for Provisional President.

Second Republic

34th: Omar N. Bradley (NDP-MO), January 3, 1946 - January 3, 19510

Elected with Long's backing, General Bradley dissapointed many by adopting more conservative foreign and domestic policies.

35th: Huey P. Long (LP-LA), January 3, 1951 - June 4, 1954

Returned to power via electoral ballot in landslide. After a troublent period, which saw a brief separation between the two "Longist" parties and facing accusations of inspiring a murder of a political opponent, Long committed suicide while in office.

36th: W. Chapman Revercomb (NDP-WV), June 4, 1954 - August 19, 1955

Revercomb was elected as Long's running-mate (despite NDP officially running another presidential candidate). Assuming the office following the latter's suicide, he served until August 1954, when he took a health leave.

37th: Joseph W. Martin, Jr. (NDP-MA), August 19, 1955 - August 22, 1955

Speaker of the House installed as Acting President following Revercomb's leave. After mere three days in power, he was outset by a military "counter-coup" led by the Secretary of Defense Lovett due to fears Martin might want to prevent President-elect and Vice President-elect from taking office.

38th: Carl T. Hayden (NDP-AZ), August 22, 1955 - January 3, 1956

As President pro tempore of the Senate, Hayden replaced Martin as Interim President (McFarland's leave of absence being declared permanent) and ruled under the state of emergency until inauguration of his elected successor.

39th: Nelson A. Rockefeller (NDP-NY), January 3, 1956 - January 3, 1961

Elected under a joint NDP/LP banner, Rockefeller promised a "fifty years of progress in five", and embarked on a massive investment programs, including creation of a new capital in the Great Plains. Despite fulfilling his campaign promises, short-term costs of his projects caused his handpicked successor, Secretary Lovett, to lose in an upset.

40th: George C. Wallace (PP-AL), January 3, 1961 - August 21, 1961

A populist Governor of Alabama elected under the banner of minor Progressive Party (with NUP backing). Mere months after his inauguration he resigned in a clumsy move to actually increase his powers.

41st: Robert C. Byrd (NDP-WV), August 21, 1961 - September 2, 1961

As President of the Senate, Byrd temporarily assumed the Presidency due to Wallace's VP being out of country.

42nd: Hubert H. Humphrey (LP-MN), September 2, 1961 - April 9, 1964

A protege of the late Huey Long, Humphrey served as Vice President under Rockefeller, and was reelected despite Lovett losing to Wallace. His accession was marked with fears of the conservative opposition and many elements within the NDP about his strong left-wing positions. Overthrew in a military coup.

Military Regime

43rd: Robert C. Byrd (NDP-WV), April 9, 1964 - April 21, 1964

As President of the Senate, Byrd once again temporarily assumed the Presidency.

44th: William C. Westmoreland (M-SC), April 21, 1964 - March 20, 1967

Leader of a coup that outset Humphrey, Westmoreland was actually reluctant to assume the Presidency himself, preferring to return government to the civilians after "necessary cleansing." However, with no acceptable choice, he agreed to be "elected" by the Congress. His mandate expired after the new constitution was adopted.

45th: Curtis E. LeMay (NRP-CA), March 20, 1967 - September 4, 1969

"Elected" by Congress after the new constitution is adopted. Unlike Westmoreland, LeMay organizes American political scene to ensure a perpetual military dictatorship. Two legal parties are allowed: pro-government National Reneval Party (NRP) and opposition American Democratic Movement (ADM). LeMay is forced to resign after suffering a debilitating stroke.

Military Junta of 1969, September 4, 1969 - October 20, 1969

Installed to prevent civilian Vice President from taking over LeMay.

46th: John G. Crommelin (NRP-AL), October 20, 1969 - October 20, 1974

Cromellin's Presidency marks an apex of repressions.

47th: Stansfield Turner (NRP-IL), October 20, 1974 - October 20, 1979

Turner's Presidency marks a cautious beginning of lessening the regime.

48th: Brent Scowcroft (NRP-UT), October 20, 1979 - March 20, 1985

With military regime no longer able to contain the situation, President Scowcroft allows a gradual democratization, but prevents direct popular election of his successor in favor of indirect race.

New Republic

49th: Gerald M. Ford (ADM-MI)

The opposition candidate elected by the Congress over military-backed Newt Gingrich. Fell ill at the eve of his inauguration and died weeks later without ever assuming the office. He is, however, officially recognized as the 49th President as a courtesy.

50th: Dennis W. DeConcini (PADM-AZ), March 20, 1985 - March 20, 1990

Formerly a leading civilian member of the NRP, DeConcini switched to the opposition in protest against Gingrich's candidacy and became Ford's running-mate. Despite facing a tough economic situation as well as being generally perceived as a crook, he will be forever celebrated as the first Democratic President since Humphrey.

Multiple party system introduced, although usually minor parties are entering coalitions with the three leading parties: PADM (Party of American Democratic Movement, a big-tent successor to ADM), left-wing Working Families Party (WFP) and American Social Democratic Party (ASDP), which was first a centre-left formation before transforming into a "third-way" force in the 90s.

51st: William J. Clinton (NRP-AR), March 20, 1990 - December 27, 1992

Former Governor of Arkansas and former member of the NRP, Clinton was narrowly elected under a banner of minor National Reconstruction Party. Broke with the "post-war" consensus by initiating neoliberal measures, despite harsh public reaction. Impeached on corruption charges.

52nd: Lowell P. Weicker, Jr. (PADM-CT), December 27, 1992 - January 1, 1995

Former opposition lawmaker, Weicker accepted Clinton's offer to be the latter running-mate over disgust with DeConcini's corruption scandals. Once in office, the two broke away and Weicker returned to the PAMD. Despite a rocky start, his administration succeeded in stopping rampant inflation and restoring integrity to the office.

54th: Leon Panetta (ASDP-CA), January 1, 1995 - January 1, 2003

Another opposition veteran, Panetta was tapped first to be Secretary of State, then of the Treasury under President Weicker. Benefiting from the popular incumbent's endorsement and the success of anti-inflation plan he propagated on behalf of the government, Panetta was easily elected in 1994. In 1998 he became the first President since Long to be reelected. Depsite his progressive past, he moved the ASDP into "third-way" direction.

Since we're all familiar with the recent stuff, I'll just finish the list:

55th: Bernie Sanders (WFP-VT), January 1, 2003 - January 1, 2011
56th: Elizabeth Warren (WFP-MA), January 1, 2011 - August 31, 2016
57th: A. Mitch McConnell (ADMP-KY), August 31, 2016 - present

So now we have a nominal GDP per capita of 7k and PPP GDP of 15k, making us the 3rd and 5th largest economy in the world, respectively? How depressing.
