I actually think neither will even try to approach the other for a handshake.  The risk that one would spurn the other in that scenario is too high for either of them to bother.

This.

It would be hypocritical if they did, and all of America on both sides would agree with this.

I think they will because both are "professionals" and that's what professionals do. I don't think they dislike each other. It's just the campaigning that makes them seem like enemies, but I don't think they are. After the election they'll go back to being distant friends like they were before. Remember Trump has donated to her campaign in the past, and she attended his wedding.

I seriously doubt they wouldn't. I mean, would their supporters seriously be enraged by something so common, which is really just a formality?

40% chance that Trump reaches out for a handshake only to pull his hand back and stroke his hair at the last minute

I'm fairly confident that they will.

I've been wondering this. I have a feeling they won't, but I wouldn't be surprised either way.

Trump will make Clinton come over to his side to do it, though.

I thought about this, and you may be right.  I think that the campaign has gone so over the top between "LOCK HER UP!" and the "Racist" "Misogynist" "Xenophobe" "Alt Right" drumbeat that really does damage Trump's "brand" is more personal than any campaign I've seen in my lifetime.  Dick Morris was once a friend of the Clintons; look at him now.

I would like to reverse something I said earlier.  They need to shake hands and be adult about this for the sake of this nation.  And the personal attacks on both sides really need to cease.  The "Lock Her Up".  The "Alt Right" stuff.  One of the strengths of our democracy is the willingness of the opposition to accept the victor as legitimate in our elections.  We have undermined this to some degree in recent years, but it is still intact.  It hasn't always been, however.  1860 happened.  This spirit is something that requires active maintenance.

Unfortunately, they probably will.

If I were Hillary Clinton, I would be afraid of touching Donald Trump's syphilitic boils that he has all over his hands.  One of them is bigger than his pinky.  It's disgusting.  He is a real piece of work.

They both probably will reluctantly shake each others hands while mumbling to each other.
