OK, but even in that case, do we really need a witch hunt? It's not as if he's going to see this and think, "Oh my, my conservative viewpoints have been a lie this whole time! I must repent!" If anything, it'll only either convince him further that Atlas is stacked against him and his fellow conservatives, or it will scare him off and lend more credence to other conservative members feeling the same way. Remember, conservative members, no matter how we feel about their politics, are members too, and we should respect them the same way that we want to be respected. If they are obviously trolling/oblivious (StatesPoll, anyone?), then it is another matter, but this does not represent the majority of the conservative posters here.

An important step in easing communication between yourself and the rest of the forum is to internalize the norms and cultural vocabulary of the community. The (in-forum) reference is at least as old as a previous challenge to a trollish poster, and may even predate that!

I'm not saying that you're doing this because he's conservative, I'm saying that this kind of behavior is unnecessary regardless of the circumstances. If you want a way to make a poster, or a group of posters, feel like they're being persecuted- this is it.

It has EVERYTHING to do with him being a conservative, as there wouldn't be this witch hunt if he weren't.  The only "evidence" I've seen is that he supposedly doesn't know a Walter Mitty quote that I don't know, either.  I didn't know that not being a literature major makes you a sock here.  But, apparently it does, if you're a conservative.

I don't know what to make of his truthfulness, and I too have doubts about many parts of his background (some I'm certain are exaggerated for good fun), but as someone who speaks to him almost daily in mibbit, he did know strikingly precise details about this area of the country (where he supposedly lived) and speaks and thinks quite a lot like someone who went to business school. The details beyond that may be a bit sketchy, but I have zero reason to  doubt those particular facts.

I certainly know who Walter Mitty is.  In my mind, he's a far more significant character in American literature than, say, Johnny Tremain or George Babbitt.

On the other hand. . .
