Weird that Democrats choose not to contest ME-02.

Poliquin winning is believable, but on how earth is he doing worse than Trump? If that actually happens, I think we can conclude that Maine no longer likes reasonable, moderate Republicans, and just likes assholes. That would be a shame, I thought Maine was a good state...

It's a ME-02. LePage is also from there AFAIK. When Poliquin defeated Raye in primary in 2014 i got the same feeling. After all - it's mostly rural, workingclass (and small business), relatively low education and income, and so on. In short - an ideal "protest" (in present situation read "Trump") district.

And there are less and less moderate Republicans, who are elected in New England (and Maine - in part) now. I can name only a few (Katz. Langley, Saviello, Rosen, Battle) in Maine's state legislature right now. 15 years ago i could name dozens (from Maine only)..... The same - in New Hampshire (Democratic congresswoman Ann Kuster is a daughter of two well known liberal Republican politicians: Malcolm and Susan McLane), Rhode island (where are new Chafee's or Schneider's?), even Massachusetts (where are Brooke's, Conte's or Cellucci's?) and Vermont (Stafford's, Jeffords'es?). Only Connecticut still elects rather considerable number of them (but - only on state legislative level), though even there we no longer see people like Lowell Weicker or Jodi Rell, and some (like state Representative Diana Urban) are happily reelected after switching to Democrats....

I hope the Democrats can unseat Poliquin before he either gets entrenched or the district becomes too Republican.

Yeah, assuming Cain loses this year, Democrats probably have one more shot at Poliquin before he locks down the district.

Assuming they (Democrats) run a local-type working class man with some socially conservative streak (guns, and, may be, abortions). Otherwise - it's already locked....
