Awful and tragic. He was one of the best pitchers in the game. My condolences go out to Mr. Fernández and his family, a great loss for baseball. Cry

RIP Jose. Could've been the next Kershaw.

And his girlfriend is pregnant, too. Hopefully the Marlins take good care of his child.

No idea who that is (I have no interest in sports) but the guy was only 24 with a child on the way. Absolutely tragic.

This is really sad. He had his entire life ahead of him (and things were looking great) and then some accident happens. RIP

The Marlins press conference today was hard to watch, the whole team was on stage.  I wouldn't blame them if they wanted to forfeit the rest of the season.  Just awful news.

Totally understand where this is coming from, but they need to play. At least once at home if only to honor him. This hit me very hard this morning, but they've got to special broadcast that one everywhere.

When I first read this, the first thing I thought about was when Oscar Taveras (Cardinals outfielder) passed a couple of years ago. Being so close to these guys in age is what makes this especially tragic. They got to live a life that a lot of boys in their home countries (Taveras from the Dominican Republic, Fernandez from Cuba) couldn't even dream of. They were the essence of the American dream and the importance of sports. I'm absolutely gutted. It's been hard to think about this all day.

A terrible tragedy.  I hope Cooperstown extends him an invite, as it was clear that was where his career was heading.  He seems like he was a good person too- he saved his mom during their escape from Cuba after she fell into the ocean.

Don't watch if you don't want to cry. Sharing for those non-sports fans who haven't seen.

Masterful display from beginning to end. Also, things like Dee Gordon's homerun really are just miracles that we can't explain.
