Time to get to the bottom of this. I think that while many would define it as oversensitivity to various words and/or statements, as well as an effort to prevent people from making remarks that could be considered offensive to others, it seems some people go... a bit further than that.

What's your take on it?

It means not being an asshole. Sure, you have a First Amendment right to be an asshole, but that doesn't mean you should use it and people have a right to call you out if you do.
