..........by continuing to make campaign appearances while Hillary Clinton has been hunkering down and preparing for the debate?

Please discuss.

Nope.

Media has no standard's for trump on debate stuff, long as he sounds coherent, he can do as he pleases.

Wouldn't be surprised if the media somehow spinned this as Hillary "not being out there enough", especially if the debate goes as I assume it goes.

No. I think he has been squeezing a lot of preparation in on the plane, focusing less on zingers, one liners, and more on policy and specific attacks on the Clinton Foundation, emails, etc. I think Trump's long term strategy in general is that he wants to break Hillary. He wants to crush her spirit. He wants to drive her to virtual madness like Bobby Fischer did to Boris Spasky in 1972.

I expect that he'll start off doing one thing and midway through the debate do the other. If he gets Hillary into a grove of attacking him over his policy substance (and/or lack thereof), then the random Gennifer Flowers attack will most likely come out of nowhere. If he starts off nasty, expect him to poke Hillary enough to get her mad (I hope there are no ashtrays nearby!) and then pull back, allowing her to come off as the naggingly petty candidate.

No. The time to prep and educate himself about key issues was in the primaries. Since he has shown himself disinterested and plain lazy to do this, then or now, Trump may as well relax and be on the campaign trail. Even if he was coached, he wouldn't listen anyway, so why bother?

Wasn't there a statement not too long ago that basically said that Trump was going to wing it and not really prepare for the debates?

I think what the OP is referring to is the follow-through on that, apparently.

We'll only be able to tell while we watch the debate.  Gore took some time off before the debates and lost the first one.  More campaigning usually helps a candidate.

Of course not. Why would he need to prepare for the debate?

All he needs is a zinger everybody will remember.
