I'm scarred by the registered supporter scheme of any type just because of the amount of abuse that the system can cause
I think realistically, the amount of people that would use this scheme would be people who are 'leftist' anyway. It's highly unlikely that someone would vote for a Labor's candidate in three consecutive elections (for a year) in an attempt to abuse any system that we have in place.

We could always have a system where party members have to 'vet' the supporters, to ensure that no-one dodgy can slip through the net, if that's more tolerable.

I'd still be opposed to allowling non laborites vote in a primary for labor supporters; although we've only had about 2 primaries in the last 12 months so I'm happy to put the matter to a vote for conference.

Does anybody else have views on this issue?

I could get behind allowing Labor-aligned independents to vote in primaries (this is a quite common practice in the US), but I think allowing members of other parties to do the same opens ourselves up to sabotage.

I'd be happy for that comprise deal- with independents being able to vote with some sort of check mechanism in the background

How would this "check" work, exactly?  I'm a little skeptical of allowing non-members to vote when it takes less than five seconds to change your registration.

I think the easiest way to conduct the "check" is to have delegates vote on who can vote in the primaries. This will allow for the party to reject anyone that could be deemed as dangerous.

So the plan is to let independents apply for the right to vote in primaries?  That sounds a bit unnecessary.

No: allow independents who have voted for the Labor candidate in the previous three Presidential elections to take part in primary votes; not just any independents. This would enable the party to become more inclusive of left leaning Atlasians who don't wish to be involved in party politics by allowing them to have a say in who the "leftist" candidate is for President.

Okay.  Sounds reasonable.

The Party laws have been passed

We've had a hectic month in Atlasia; with the Presidental Race/The Run off, the continued Supreme Court case and the titanic explosion of Trump in the last week I haven't had as much time to devote to Atlasia but it's time to get back to work.
