Currently, the 538 polls-only model has Democrats having a slightly better chance winning the senate (57%) than the presidency (55%).

The 538 model has a lot at stake...

Ignoring the issues with 538's model, this outcome would still be terrible, since Trump could still use executive orders. Also, if non-Trump Republicans got taken down while he won, it might encourage Republicans to embrace more Trump-like candidates.

Terrible (the worst imaginable outcome would be Clinton wins, and Democrats get a filibuster proof Senate majority and the House, but the latter two won't happen).

Be disappointed that we lost to trump of all people, but because of the senate, I mean, I would still be horribly disappointed, but not as much as the scenario of a trump presidency/republican senate.

This is what the maps would likely be:

Trump/Pence: 275
Clinton/Kaine: 263

Senate:

What would it mean for America if Trump winds up performing better than generic Republicans? It is an interesting thought.

Every plausible outcome is a bad outcome for me... so like every other election cycle. I got nothing and everything to worry about. Tongue

Pretty terrible. I can't see Kirk or Ayottw losing but Trump winning, so I imagine AZ, NC, PA, IN, MO, WI, and FL are the likeliest Democratic pickups here.

Considering how much of the GOP Agenda would be blocked, and considering how ideologically populist rather than conservative and persuaded by narcissism trump is, I could see him actually making a lot of deals with Dems that would tick of McConnell and Co.

Much better than GOP holding and Clinton winning, which would lead to Clinton consensusing out useful reform.

The obvious best is GOP only having the House, but I remain skeptical of that outcome.

Still unhappy, but would be better than giving him blank check.

A far from ideal scenario but I'd take it. At the very least, I would hope that congressional Dems would work in good faith with Trump on trade and infrastructure.

It would be disappointing but maybe Courtocalypse can still be avoided, right?

In 2010 in Minnesota we elected Mark Dayton (DFL) for governor while the legislature flipped to the GOP.

And it did no good.  It led to a government shutdown and a downgrading of the state's perfect credit rating (due to the compromise of using gimmicks a la Piysh to balance the budget).. and also led to major cuts in funding to health and human services.

But if Tom Emmer had won... he would've succeeded in making Scott Walker's Wisconsin look like a progressive paradise compared to Minnesota.  We came that close to the brink of disaster.  A downgrade and a shutdown were a small price to pay.

So... not the worst case by any means... but it would only result in widening the divide even more.

I wouldn't like it at all, but, the next four years would certainly be entertaining.  They could probably get some good things done on trade and infrastructure while 80% of Trump's insane proposals would either be blocked or struck down in the courts.

Anything short of Hillary winning comfortably and a Democratic Senate majority would be heatbreaking to me.

I voted option 4, but there actually is a worse outcome: Trump wins and Democrats take both houses of Congress.
